Style Guide: Play & Read
Like all Woodsie Wonder designs, Play & Read was never meant to live in a nursery. It was created with the living room in mind, the heart of the home where families spend time together. It adapts naturally to its surroundings with a choice of finishes and accessories that harmonise with your home’s material language. This guide shows how to make it fit in seamlessly. From choosing the right wood tone to styling it as both a playful baby gym and an elegant bookshelf.
Choose the Right Wood Tone for Your Space
The tone of the wood shapes the atmosphere and temperature of a room. Play & Read comes in three finishes, each with its own mood and material character.
Natural Oak feels fresh and balanced. It reflects light softly and suits Scandinavian or minimalist homes. Its balanced undertone makes it easy to integrate into both cool and warm interiors.
Brown Oak brings depth and comfort. Its warm hue complements earthy palettes and textured fabrics. It adds richness without heaviness, creating a grounded and tactile feel.
Black Oak adds contrast and definition. It suits bold, architectural and contemporary spaces. It anchors a room with quiet confidence and pairs effortlessly with darker, moodier palettes.
Whichever tone you choose, let it complement the materials already present in your space. The goal is not to match but to create harmony in temperature so Play & Read feels as though it has always belonged there.
Choose Your Accessory Palette: Terra or Wood Tones
Accessories set the mood. They can make Play & Read feel warm and playful or calm and composed. Each palette offers a different direction while maintaining a natural sense of balance.
Terra Tones draw from nature. Shades of sand, ochre, olive and soft terracotta bring quiet colour and warmth to the room while adding a gentle sense of play.
Wood Tones focus on simplicity and calm. Layers of light and dark oak create subtle depth and an understated rhythm, ideal for serene and timeless interiors.
Both palettes are designed to live easily within your home. Whether you prefer a hint of colour or a monochrome wood-on-wood look, the result should feel cohesive, tactile and effortlessly inviting.
As a Baby Gym
Play belongs where life happens, and Play & Read is made to prove it. Choose a spot near where you spend most of your time so your child can play close to you. Use a soft rug or baby blanket to define and soften the play area. If your frame or accessories lean warm, balance them with a neutral-toned rug. If the setup feels cool, you can introduce warmth through natural fibres. The goal is gentle contrast, not matching.
When It Becomes a Bookshelf
When Play & Read transforms into a bookshelf, curate it as you would any other shelf in your living room. Select a few well-loved books and objects that reflect your home’s materials and tones. Keep the rest tucked away in closed storage. Stack larger books below and place smaller ones on top for balance. Add a soft toy, a small reading light or a sculptural piece. Group the items thoughtfully and leave space between each one so the composition feels calm and deliberate. Refresh it from time to time. Rotate books with the seasons or as your child’s interests change. Keep only what feels beautiful and let the rest go.
Designed for play. Made to Stay
From baby gym to bookshelf, Play & Read brings function, beauty and longevity together in one considered form. It grows with your family and continues to belong in your home long after the play phase has passed.
